    Speak
I am in love! I am in love!
Don’t worry this is not my most resent crush
    Not another burst of hormones

I just read a really good book, and now I’m inspired, tearful, and happy.
I am in love with a book called Speak. It may be the best book ever, or it may just be that i have an abnormally high case of I-just-finished-a-book-and-I-swear-it’s-the best-book-ever syndrome
Either way, it’s a great book!

    Speak
It’s a dark warm night at the end of summer, and the police station is poised like a mother looking protectively out of a window at her unsuspecting child. A few calls come in but nothing but the usual night-time prank calls. Somewhere miles away a teenage girl is getting up from the ground with a bewildered look in here eyes. She puts her hand to her mouth from which the word “No!” had passed. Why hadn’t she screamed? A few blinks lead to tears in the way that moments before a simple kiss had lead to rape. Unsteadily her mind focuses on that word as she stumbles back toward the sound of music and loud uncaring laughter. Rape. Was it really rape? Suddenly she doesn’t even care. She is now wading through air thick with the smell of beer and vomit toward a phone. Towards the reassuring sound of an unintoxicated voice. The police.

“We have you’re location dear, don’t worry!” says the receptionist flashing a nearby man a look that starts the whole police station into smooth action. Five minutes later the party changes abruptly when the police pull up. By morning everyone knows who called the police, but no one knows why.

(That was me randomly writing about the sad part of the book)

Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson, is about a girl who is raped and how she gets over her fear and confusion. At the beginning of the book she is raped at a party. The act of calling the police effectively alienates all her friends and makes everyone in her school hates her. She pulls within herself so much that she is unable to tell anyone that she was raped. As she starts school Melinda is entirely alone as everyone else hates her for ruining the party. As Melinda draws within herself she stops getting good grades, and practically stops speaking.
But it has such a good ending!
    It made me cry
(but a lot of books can make me cry)
    Its beautifully written
    Poetic
    Almost like Fighting Ruben Wolfe
I love to read good books!!!
And don’t worry it has a happy ending
    A really good ending!
    And everyone must read it!!!
    (I can be very demanding)
Sorry my ramblings are so ramblingish!
    Luv ya

THIS REALLY IS NICOLA. wink wink. If you want to know who this REALLY is, call 8 three one, 3 five 9 two five six 1. Please don't call. It might not be the right number, and think of how embarrassed you would be then. Sad thoughts, no?
